Free Webinar: Accelerated Weathering Testing Using Xenon Arc Lamps - A Comparison Between Flat Array and Rotating Rack Test Chambers

Laboratory weathering has been around for over a century, beginning with carbon-arc lamp exposures in 1918 and progressing to xenon-arc test devices in the 1950’s. Historically, these chambers featured exclusively a "rotating rack" design, with test materials and specimens mounted on a carrousel that rotates around the light source. Much of the early work including test standard development in the accelerated weathering industry was written specifically around the rotating rack design, (along with other design constraints). These were often "hardware-based" standards that specified one or more instrument model(s) from a single manufacturer. Today, a majority of test standards have been revised to be "performance-based," where any device can be used provided it meets requirements for test parameters like spectral irradiance, light intensity, temperatures, and water spray or relative humidity. This allows many other designs, including a "flat array" design, to be used to perform xenon arc weathering testing.

In this webinar, we will first discuss the design of each type of device - rotating rack and flat array - along with their respective capabilities and features. After demonstrating that the performance of each of the design technologies can be objectively equivalent, we will further discuss how exposure of reference materials can help prove that both devices can generate comparable test results.
