When most people think about weathering testing, they normally associate it with materials like plastics, paints, and coatings, as these materials are frequently exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time. It’s important to note that there are lots of electrical and electronic components that are subjected to some of the same factors as these mechanical components.

While many of the test methods used for electronic components share features with common test methods like ASTM G155 and ISO 4892-2, there are some key differences in exposure techniques and evaluations used. A set of methods for testing of these components has been adopted by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) based around earlier testing methods found in MIL STD 810 and DIN 75220.

The goal of this webinar is to cover the various testing methods used for electronic components, with a focus on IEC 60068-2-5 (Guidance for solar radiation testing and weathering). We will cover the background behind this standard, the test conditions in the standard, and the important application of the test tailoring process used to apply these test methods to various specifications used throughout the electronics industry.
